Val Tait Presentation & WIGA Night Out

As 2016 gets going and the vines switch into high gear, we thought that it would be a great time to treat ourselves to an educational afternoon and a fun filled evening out together.

As many of you know Val Tait wasn’t able to join us for our annual conference. This waorig-mediaitemid20416-2542s disappointing not only for us, but also for her. We are pleased to announce that Val is coming to Vancouver Island on Monday June 13 to give her presentation on two important topics for all of our growers and winemakers: The Disconnect Between Picking by Numbers and Picking by FlavourandThe Relationship Between Crop Load and Wine Quality.(Val’s bio appears at the bottom of the this page.)

original-e18189975e5454f9Val’s talk will be given at the Old Firehouse Wine Bar. Following her presentation, we invite you to stay for a private WIGA social at the Old Firehouse, including a sparkling wine reception compliments of Enrico Winery, a delicious dinner from the amazing Firehouse kitchen, and a showing of a great new wine movie (SOMM: Into The Bottle) on the big screen, in the comfort of the wine bar with a delicious cocktail or glass of wine in hand. It should be a great evening and lots of fun! Invite your spouse or a friend to join us.

Note: The afternoon will be broken into two different events for those of you who can only come for part of the event. We encourage as many of you as possible to join us for the whole thing, it’s going to be a blast!166953

VAL TAIT
General Manager and Winermaker, Bench 1775 Winery

Val Tait’s analytical and technical skills were developed from a B.Sc in Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. While working with grape vine viruses, Val discovered wine and the connection between the expression of wines and viticulture, which motivated her to go on to study Oenology and Viticulture at UC Davis in California. Val has considerable experience with over 1000 acres planted and  25 vintages, working with some of the most iconic producers in the Okanagan and as an owner of Calliope Wines. Her philosophy in winemaking is to capture the personality and full expression of wines in the vineyard, with minimal intervention in the cellar.
